Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes to Direct ‘Ironheart’ with Ryan Coogler producing

Marvel Studios announced Ironheart a Disney+ series following a young inventor Riri Williams who has made the most advanced suit of armor since Iron man. Dominique Thorne will be playing Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage inventor who builds her own version of the Iron Man suit in an MIT dorm. Ironheart will make her first appearance in this year’s Black panther Wakanda Forever.

Ryan Coogler and his production company Proximity Media will be producing the series with Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes as directors. Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian and Chinaka Hodge will serve as executive producers alongside Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, and Zoie Nagelhout. Chinaka Hodge is also the Head Writer for the series.

Bailey is the co-creator of the Emmy-nominated Brown Girls and the creator of the Gotham-nominated You’re So Talented. She also served as a producer and director on the final season of Netflix’s Dear White People as well as a director on the previous season of the show. While Barnes has directed episodes of Mythic QuestBlindspotting and the upcoming season 4 of Atlanta.

The series is set to begin filming later this year in Atlanta and is set to premiere exclusively on Disney Plus next year. Riri Williams was introduced in 2016’s Invincible Iron Man No. 7, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato. In the MCU she will be following the legacy of Tony Stark who is the ultimate hero, sacrificing his life to save the world, defeating the mad titan Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. Riri WiIlliams will first be introduced this year in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in which she is set to have a significant role.

Ironheart will make her big screen debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will star in her own show premiering Exclusively on DIsney+ 2023.
