The Marvel Cinematic Universe has created some of the most popular storylines in Cinema history. From the origin of Iron Man, to Thanos and the Infinity Stones. Combining every MCU project, as of today Marvel Studios has made over 27 Billion Dollars at the box office. With the Success of these storylines and it’s characters, it’s safe to assume Marvel won’t be stopping anytime soon. With WandaVision we finally got a proper backstory on Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, who at the end of the show flies off after defeating Agatha Harkness. Taking the Darkhold with her, in hopes of studying it and learning how to use it. But what do we know about the Darkhold? What powers does it have and where does Marvel plan on using it next ? For that we need to go to the Comics to get an idea of what to expect for its next appearance in the MCU.

Darkhold Origins

In the Comics, the Darkhold (also known as The Book of sins) was created by Chthon, an Evil Elder God who was forced to flee earth by a God-Eater. Before Chthon could leave, he wrote his evil spells on stones. Later they were translated into scrolls. These scrolls were known as “The Scrolls of Chthon”. Thousands of years later a Witch known as Morgan Le Fey collected all of the scrolls and bound them together for the first time. The Darkhold has the power to reveal anything to people who read it, although it comes with the cost of turning you evil.

In Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness

In one of the ads for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (which is scheduled to release next month in theaters) you can clearly see a Shadowy Monster Figure. Fans instantly thought that this was our first look at Chthon in the MCU. However, these seem to be minions conjured by Wanda via the Darkhold. Though we still have already gotten a look at the character in the MCU through the poster for Multiverse of Madness which included a different looking creature who looked exactly like the comic book version of Chthon. So he is most definitely in the film as a secret villain. Since Wanda is set to have a big role in Doctor Strange 2, it’s safe to assume we will know more about the Darkhold in the MCU, how it was made in this universe and what connection Chthon has with it.

With the MCU always taking inspiration from the comics, it’s safe to assume the story with Chthon and the Darkhold in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will have a similar storyline to its comic book counterpart. Also with Wanda now being in possession there’s no telling what the Darkhold will do to her. And the Chaos it will bring to the MCU.

Stay tuned for all the latest updates for Doctor Strange in The Multiverse Of Madness and many more as the film hits theaters May 6.
