Prime Video’s Citadel was the streamer’s next big swing in hopes to create their next big franchise, with Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm Executive producing. Although the start to the “Citadel spyverse” was not met with much critical praise, it was still able to become Prime Video’s 2nd biggest debut. The next chapter Citadel: Diana follows Matilda De Angelis as Diana in a new spin-off series.
The first season of CItadel featured Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles, as agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, 2 of Citadel’s top agents. The 2 then had their memories wiped and were left seperated after Citadel fell. Citadel was the biggest independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people, and was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. Until one night eight years later when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love.
The series’ season finale featured a post credit scene, serving as a first look tease for the spin-off series. Today Prime VIdeo revealed the official title and release window for the spin-off series. Citadel: Diana is set to debut on Prime Video in 2024. The series will be the first regional Citadel spin-off, completely produced in Italy. The next regional spin-off will be an indian spin-off starring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. This italian spin-off is being produced by Italian production company Cattleya, along with the Russo’s production company AGBO.
