Hayden Christensen Teases ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Fight Sequences and Anakin’s Struggle

Obi-Wan Kenobi is the next Star Wars series scheduled to be hitting Disney Plus in just two weeks. The series has been the most anticipated Star Wars series among fans for some time since it marks the return of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen after 17 years. The series is set 10 years after the dramatic events of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, where Obi-Wan Kenobi faced his greatest defeat: the downfall and corruption of his best friend and Jedi apprentice, Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side as an evil Sith Lord Darth Vader.

Arriving May 27, Obi-Wan Kenobi its first 2 episodes together on Disney+ on 27 May. Currently the series is having it’s press tour where during an interview Hayden Christensen spoke about the fight sequences in the series.

Prequel-Inspired Fight Sequences

Hayden Christensen recently spoke with Empire Magazine and gave details about the amazing sequences in the series:

“We’re more in line with the prequels than we are with how the fights are in the original trilogy. These characters have aged, but not that much yet.”

This is exciting to hear as it shows us that the series will be dealing with the direct problem sleft at the end of Revenge of the Sith.

Anakin’s Struggles

“He’s always going to be struggling with the loss of Padmé. He’s got Anakin buried deep down inside. There always has to be that element of Anakin there, because he does eventually find redemption in the end – through the love of his son, no less. So there has to be that bit of him in there for Luke to be able to access. There’s a lot going on.”

This is great to hear since it shows that we will get to see a side of Vader who is deeply conflicted and is learning the ways of the Sith at the same time

Final Confrontation

With both Christensen and McGregor returning it is inevitable that we see a confrontation between Darth Vader and his old master Kenobi. The first concept art for the series gave us glimpses of this confrontation, now new promo art has given us an even better look.

This confrontation promises to be an emotion one, most likely left for the end of the series. However, with the posters and promo art teasing the fight so much it may appear even earlier in the series. The series will follow Kenobi as he looks over Anakin’s son Luke and is in hiding being a Jedi from the Empire.

Preparation for The Series

The series released a final trailer last week which gave us a new look at Kenobi’s return and a first live-action look at The Inquisitors who audiences were first introduced to in the animated Star Wars: Rebels. So it may be helpful to catch up on the series before Obi-Wan Kenobi premieres. It may also be helpful to watch The Clone Wars animated series which gives a lot more depth to the relationship between Anakin and Kenobi. We may even revisit some sequences from the series in live-action since Hayden Christensen is also returning. Watch the full trailer for the show below.

Marvel’s ‘Echo’ Disney+ Series confirmed to begin production tomorrow

Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Hawkeye debuted Alaqua Cox’s Echo a deaf Native American character with a deep connection to Kingpin and Daredevil. In Hawkeye she was a leader of the Tracksuit mafia and at the end found out that Kingpin was responsible for her father’s death leading her to turn on him and shoot him. The Echo series had long been rumored last year and was finally announced at on November 12th of last year at Disney+ Day. The series is scheduled to release in 2023 and was scheduled to begin filming sometime this month. Alaqua Cox who plays Echo has now confirmed in her Instagram stories that the series will begin filming tomorrow on the 21st of April.

Production Begins Tomorrow

The series had been listed on production weekly to begin filming in April so this confirms that and gives us an exciting new update the the show is all set to start production tomorrow. The Newnan Times-Herald had reported earlier in the year the series would begin filming in Social Circle in Atlanta in April so this round of filming beginning tomorrow is most likely that. They also reported that the filming would then move to Grantville in may, which is just outside Atlanta. the series will be filming from the 21st of April till mid-August as confirmed by a casting call for young actors needed for the series.

There have been many casting-calls related to the series which have asked for young and elderly Native American actors so we will most likely be getting a glimpse into the character’s origins. As we saw glimpses of it in Hawkeye Episode 3. Deleted scenes for the series also showcased more of her relationship with Kingpin as a child. Only recently we reported that both Vincent D’Onofrio and Charlie Cox would be returning as their respective characters. Hawkeye‘s end saw Echo shoot Kingpin. So how could he be returning? Fans of the comics will have noticed that his death was an exact remake of a comic book panel from the Daredevil Parts of A Hole comic book in which Kingpin gets shot in the same way but survives and is only left injured in his eye. It seems that the MCU will be adapting this story line. In the comics Daredevil and Echo have a long running relationship deeply connected to her wanting to get revenge from Kingpin for killing her father. Which is the same reason why Echo shoots Kingpin in the series. This paved the way for both characters to return in the Echo series and allows for various different arcs to be explored.

Origins

Her father was of the Cheyenne Nation and secretly a mob enforcer working for the Kingpin. They were good friends, but, at one point, he outlived his purpose and Kingpin decided to gun him down. As Kingpin was about to shoot him, he used his last words to ask that he take care of Maya. When she found her dying father, he reached out to her, leaving a bloody handprint on her face. This becomes a part of Echo’s future costume as she sought to take her revenge from Kingpin, teaming up with Daredevil. The MCU’s version of the character follows a similar story as her father still works for Kingpin but in the MCU it is Ronin, who is Hawkeye’s darker persona, who kills her father. But in the same way as the comics Kingpin is responsible for his death as in the MCU Kingpin sends Ronin after her father.

Release Date?

The Series is scheduled to wrap filming in mid-august so taking into account the regular 5-7 months of Post-production for Marvel Disney Plus shows the Echo series should premiere on Disney Plus around February-April of 2023. So I predict that the series will premiere on Disney Plus on the 12th of April in 2023.

Echo will stream Exclusively on Disney Plus next year

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon adds Corey Stroll and Cary Elwes

Zack Snyder is set to direct, write and produce his upcoming space opera sci-fi fantasy Rebel Moon for Netflix. The film is currently in pre-production, with production expected to begin later this year, and is set to release on Netflix in 2024. It is part of Netflix’s multi-year deal with Snyder, previously making the films Army of the Dead and Army of thieves for the streamer. Rebel Moon has now added new cast members including Corey Stroll and Cary Elwes.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Corey Stroll(House of Cards and Ant-Man) and Cary Elwes(Saw and Stranger things) had joined the film along with Dutch actor Michiel Huisman(The Flight Attendant and Game of Thrones) and Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera(Sense8 and Ozark). Stroll has also recently appeared in the critically acclaimed Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, while Elwes has recently made a triumphant return to acting with Netflix’s Stranger Things and the Mission Impossible franchise after previously starring in classics like The Princess Bride.

As revealed by Variety on February 9th, Rebel Moon is a sci-fi fantasy saga being created for Netflix that takes inspiration from Seven Samurai and Star Wars and has an Akira Kurosawa vibe to it. Originally, starting as a Star Wars film pitch nearly a decade ago, before Disney acquired Lucasfilm in 2012. Snyder co-wrote the screenplay in collaboration with Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad. It follows a mysterious young girl(Sofia Boutella) who must embark on a recruitment mission across the galaxy to locate mercenary soldiers that will aid a peaceful rebellion against the military advances of the tyrannical Regent Belisarius.

Elwes will play the king of the galactic empire, while details for the other actors were not revealed. The film’s cast includes Sofia Boutella in the starring role along with Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, E. Duffy, Charlotte Maggi, and Sky Yang.  Fisher also worked with Snyder on Zack Snyder’s Justice League as Cyborg and Malone co-starred in the Snyder’s Sucker Punch.

Production for the film will last until November with a plan to split the project into two films. There are also plans of making other spin-offs from the film, in the same way, Star Wars previously has done with films like Rogue One and shows like The Mandalorian.

‘GODZILLA VS. KONG’ sequel set to start filming in Australia, later this year

The sequel to 2021’s box office hit ‘GODZILLA VS. KONG’ will be filmed in Queensland, Australia later this year.

Legendary Entertainments next Monsterverse flick is expected to film at Gold Coast and various other locations in Southeast Queensland. Both ’Godzilla VS Kong’ and ‘Kong Skull Island’ also filmed in the province. The state film agency ’Screen Queensland’ announced that the Australian government would pay subsidies to the production to incentivize filming in the region. The film will employ over 500 local cast and crew members along with over 750 extras.

Earlier last year, it was officially announced that the sequel was in development, with Adam Wingard set to return to direct the sequel. We can only guess, when the movie may release. However, with production set to begin by the end of the year, our best bet would be a late 2024 or early 2025 release for the sequel.

Back To The Future star Christopher Lloyd joins the cast of The Mandalorian Season 3

The Mandalorian, produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, launched in November 2019 as Disney+’s flagship show, solely responsible for the bulk of the streamer’s initial subscribers. Season two ran in late 2020, with the first spinoff, The Book of Boba Fett, debuting Dec. 28. The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal as a Mandalorian bounty hunter by the name of Din Djarin who becomes attached to a baby, the same species as Master Yoda. Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito will also return in the series.

Christopher Lloyd

Christopher Lloyd has joined the cast of The Mandalorian Season 3, which is set to premiere around December 2022 and January 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The iconic Back To The Future actor was on the call sheet for the series, which is currently filming in Southern California.

The Hollywood Reporter also states that details of the role itself are still unknown, but it is a guest-starring role.

The Mandalorian has already brought in actors of the highest caliber into the universe including Giancarlo Esposito, Pedro Pascal, Mark Hamill, and Carl Weathers. So, Christopher Lloyd is a worthy addition to the show’s cast and is sure to get fans excited.

Who could Christopher Lloyd portray? Since it is only a guest role, he could be playing absolutely anyone in the series. However, we have heard from trusted sources that there will be 100s of Mandalorians involved in the show. So, Christopher Lloyd could be playing a Mandalorian but, it would be extremely unlikely that an actor as iconic as Christoper Lloyd would have his face covered. Therefore, I believe that he may be playing a wise old Jedi or another original character.

Christopher Lloyd is infamous for his iconic role as ‘Doc Brown’ in the Back To The Future franchise. On the cosmic side, he has also played ‘Commander Kruger’ in the Star Trek Franchise. These franchises are universally loved and fans will no doubt be ecstatic about the casting. There has already been great excitement on Social Media in regards to the casting.

The Mandalorian, produced by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, first premiered on the 12th of November, 2019 as Disney+’s first flagship Series, solely responsible for the bulk of the streamer’s initial subscribers stars, Pedro Pascal as the Mandalorian bounty hunter by the name of Din Djarin who becomes attached to a baby, the same species as Master Yoda. Carl Weathers and Giancarlo Esposito will also be returning in the third season of the series.

The Mandalorian Season 3 is slated to begin streaming Exclusively on Disney Plus by the end of the year

Ryan Reynolds’ Production Company ‘Maximum Effort’ Will co-produce Deadpool 3

Ryan Reynolds promised updates, and here they are. Just last week, he confirmed that, after much fan speculation, Deadpool 3 would be Directed by Free Guy, Real Steel, The Adams project, Director Shawn Levy. Well, now he has given us even more news.

Ryan Reynolds told Forbes, while talking about his companies, that his Production Company Maximum Effort “will be a part of the producing team” for Deadpool 3. This will mark the first time that a Disney-distributed Marvel Studios movie will be made in partnership with another producing company. The company was actually co-founded by Reynolds after his experiences marketing the first Deadpool movie. Deadpool 2 was also co-produced by Maximum Effort. This will also be the first Marvel Studios-produced movie to be R-rated, as confirmed by Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege.

We currently don’t have an official release date from Marvel, but we do have a few announced release dates with no associated projects for 2024. I believe Deadpool 3 could take the February 16th, 2024 spot as that would be Valentine’s weekend and could see Deadpool returning to its roots as a valentines day movie, like the first Deadpool in 2016.

Deadpool (2016)

Ryan Reynolds has given us more information on Deadpool 3 for the second consecutive week, so who’s to say he won’t give us something else next week. Stay tuned and make sure to follow @CineGeekNews on Twitter to get all the latest and greatest news from The Marvel Universe.
