Ever since Disney acquired Fox and the rights for the X-Men were reverted back to Marvel, fans have been speculating when Marvel Studios would announce the MCU’s X-Men film. Then in 2019 Marvel Studios President Kevin Fiege announced at Comic Con that an X-Men project was already in development. Later he elaborated at D23 Expo that they would follow a 5 year plan to introduce the X-men to the MCU after which they will get their own project. However, since the announcement we have not received any updates or news about the film. Until Now, as Jennifer Kaytin the writer for Thor: Love and Thunder while chatting with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron seemingly revealed that Waldron was writing The MCU’s X-Men project.

Waldron has recently had a lot of experience working at Marvel and has previously written Marvel’s Disney+ series Loki and then also gone on to write Marvel’s latest film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse Of Madness. So Marvel and Waldron are on great terms right now. So Waldron being the one to introduce the X-Men into the MCU is not too out of the question. Especially with Doctor Strange in The Multiverse Of Madness set to be the first MCU film to feature members of the X-Men with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X seen in the film’s trailer. There are also rumors of more of the X-Men returning in the film, rumors include Wolverine, Magneto and Quicksilver. Magneto and Quicksilver actually have more of a likelihood to appear since they would have great plot significance, being the father and brother of Wanda Maximoff who is the co-lead of the film.

Apart from Loki and Multiverse Of Madness, Waldron has previously also written episodes of Rick and Morty and will also be writing Kevin Fiege’s Untitled Star Wars film. So it’s obvious that Fiege trusts Waldron, which makes it clear why Fiege would choose him to write the MCU’s X-Men.

Currently, no details are known about the plot, release or cast of the X-Men project. It is also still unkown if the project will be a film or a Disney+ series. However, it will most likely be a film with the significance and popularity of the characters. Fox’s X-Men movies have also been widely loved by fans, but have been very hit or miss. The ones that hit are some of the best comic book films of all time, in particular 2017’s Logan is widely considered a masterpiece, even being nominated for an Academy award. Kevin Fiege himself was a producer on Fox’s early X-Men films, so the characters are very dear to him. Characters from Fox’s universe will also be joining the MCU in Multiverse Of Madness, which should act as the MCU’s gateway to introduce mutants into the universe. Especially, with the film adapting the House of M storyline, where Wanda Maximoff eradicates all mutants. So fans have been speculating that Wanda may do an opposite of this in the film, creating mutants in the universe.

Fox’s Deadpool is also set to join the MCU in Deadpool 3. Deadpool 3 is set to begin production shortly with Shawn Levy directing and Ryan Reynolds producing. Kevin Fiege has already announced that the film is part of the MCU, so there will obviously be an event which brings Deadpool into the universe. Maybe a Multiversal one like in Multiverse Of Madness.
